The Diving Bug
Posted (Marc) in Travel on May-28-2007

That’s me coughing in the background. Apparently, you had to swallow your saliva to keep your airway moist. Apparently, I wasn’t listening during that part of the lecture.

They say once you’ve been bitten by the diving bug, you’re hooked. I’ve been bitten, but still think I need another bite before I commit.

Dreamy Bohol
Posted (Marc) in Travel on May-25-2007

Just like Boracay, only cleaner and more tranquil. More things to see too.

After much preparation and anticipation, our Bohol expedition finally happened. It would be my second trip to the island. The first one was when a few Ateneo buddies decided to do a Southern semestral break swing. That was a complete disaster as I missed seeing them in Bohol (they thought the Chocolate Hills were more important than waiting for dear old me). Even if that 1998 trip pushed through, we wouldn’t have seen as many tourist spots since most of them have not been developed yet.

This time around, I was with the Sharmskee and the band. I also had the touring prowess of my mom behind us. Mom the linkbaiter had been organizing numerous trips to Bohol for relatives and friends and was organizing this trip too. With so many happy tour groups under her belt, I was very confident ours would be no different. That was before Murphy decided to join us. But before I elaborate on all the Boholian boo boos, let me walk you through the painstaking preparations.

Ninakaw galing kay yugatech.

Weekend warriors all: Rico, Sasha, Abe, Jayvee, Aileen, the Sharmskee and friends.

Sometimes it’s not about where you’re headed but who you’re sharing the ride with. Spending 40+ offline hours with these people is always a joy. Thanks for the words of encouragement and the trust. Sayang lang binetray nyo trust ko dahil pinost nyo yung Gandhi scandal pics! :)

Davao Daze
Posted (Marc) in Travel on July-25-2006

All Fun
(from right to left) the Sharmskee, Richard (our guide), Earl the Pearl Calma, me and Cotabato Dick.

Just came back from a 3 nighter in Davao. Twas my first time to Durian Country and wow I never thought the Sharmskee and I would have such a grand time in Davao City. Earl Calma, a good friend I met in college (we were bunkermates in one of the God-forsaken dorms along Esteban Abada) had volunteered to give us the grand tour of Davao and he didn’t disappoint! We must have packed a week’s worth of activities in 72 hours. I tell you if it weren’t for Kakuei’s wedding, Earl might have taken us up to Apo.

Karting at SpeedZone
Posted (Marc) in Travel, Photography on October-15-2005

When some friends invited me to go karting at Speedzone a few weeks back, visions of NFS and Gran Turismo started playing in my head. When we actually got to go racing, it’s then that you realize how hard racing really is. But the adrenaline rush was weeeeeeelllll worth it :)

Getting my need for speed fix

Welcome to the Philippine Travel Blog
Posted (Marc) in Travel on May-26-2005

Welcome to the Philippine Travel Blog - Covering the Best of the Philippines One Blog Post at a Time!

I was looking for information about a certain travel destination in the Philippines but grew tired of getting the same commercial information day in and day out. I wanted to see real travel reviews from real bakasyonistas.

I did manage to find a few blog posts about the travel destination I was searching for but they were all just posted in their own blogs. Then the idea came: put all these travel posts under one roof and categorize them by travel destination. That way, we have a definitive site containing honest reviews of the many travel destinations in the Philippines. Think Pinoyblog, only this time it’s a showcase of travel posts.

Where to Next?
Posted (Marc) in Travel on May-16-2005

Note to self: visit Caramoan, Capones Island and Punta Bulata this year.

And if resources permit: Sagada, Polilio, Pagudpod, Vigan and Pamalican. The Philippines is really one beautiful country.

Is Tiger Airways For Real?
Posted (Marc) in Travel on May-5-2005

If you’re looking for a hotel in Singapore, be smart. Find the best deal, compare prices and read what other travelers have to say about the hotels in Singapore.

I’ve read the earlier emails about Tiger Airways’ budget trips from Clark to Singapore but the Tiger Airways’ website is deceptively clever in putting all the hidden costs off its pages. I’m curious how much the airport taxes (here and in Singapore), surcharges and fees all add up. I also would like to know how smooth the plane ride is (hell, I hope they didn’t scrimp on the safety gadgets on board to qualify as a budget airline), how exquisite the food they serve is, how long the trip took, the hassles encountered, if any, at the Clark and Singapore airports, and any other travel tip you could share.
