How to Get More Out of TLA

SEO

Here’s a list of things I’m not doing which I think would help my personal blog attract more Text Link Ads advertisers (and higher paying ones too).

  • Keywords, keywords, keywords - get found by prospective advertisers by ‘peppering’ your site’s description with all the relevant keywords you can think of.
  • Recategorize your site - I originally categorized my site under SEO but I actually write about a lot of things which could pass of for other categories. Who knows those categories might have less publishers so your chances of getting an advertiser may be higher. I checked today and suprise suprise I actually saw this blog listed under Web Development first and SEO second - no wonder nobody was seeing my listing!
  • Put the display code above the fold - doing this will effectively tell the world that you can rent advertising space on my site; you can also add a personal note saying “hey advertisers, buy a sitewide PR5 link from Macalua.com”. You also give your advertisers a hot piece of real estate where they’re sure to get some bit of traffic from curious clickers. Of course this will also tell Google that I’m actively selling links on my site and competitors can tell Google about it and once they determine that you’re indeed selling links, you risk losing the ability to pass PR. But who cares right? If you only have your beloved blog to get link juice from then you’re not really working hard as a search engine optimizer.
  • Contact advertisers directly - why wait when you can be more proactive right? Shoot them an email or blog about it ;) Let them know that they can be one of the first advertisers on your virgin blog. I bet that would excite them. They’ll also like the fact that it costs waaay less to advertise on your high-traffic, high PR site than the one they’re advertising on now.

BTW, thanks to the single advertiser who advertised on my site…those two months more than made my day. If you’re an advertiser and you would like to contribute to the Macalua-Miguel wedding fund for next year, be sure to book this site (SEO, Marketing), this site (Technology, Telecoms, VOIP) and this site (Sports, Ice Hockey) for your next link buy :)

TLA advertisers love having the links on top of content. Maximum visibility talaga. Yun nga lang, you give up that ad space na pwede sana for adsense. But then again, if you’re doing horrible with adsense (like me! hehe), I guess it’s ok (my TLA is doing much better, so it wasn’t that hard a choice).

Although aesthetically, medyo panget having links floating around the page.

Maganda rin sa TLA is their per post ad. I have a number of those, but the best thing about it, there are some advertisers who would rather go directly to you than through TLA. You get to offer them a lower monthly rate than TLA, but at the same time, higher parin yun sa makukuha mo from the half-half sharing you’d get in a usual TLA transaction.

Hmm.. Interesting topic ha. Maybe I should write about this :P
