AdSense Revenue Sharing?
Posted (Marc) in AdSense on January-22-2007

I’ve been thinking about implementing an ad revenue sharing scheme on the new SEO Philippines forum. But comments like this scare the shit out of me :)

ive not installed this yet but before i do i just want to ask a question - excuse my ignorance if i have missed something.

from what i have read this is like a banner rotation scheme but for adsense. does this mean each person has to have an adsense account and if so how would i know whos adsense account i am clicking on. (highlights are mine)

Does anyone have real world stories about AdSense sharing and forums?

Chances are… you’re ads will appear if you’re not logged in. but if logged on, the vBulletin plugin will not place your adsense pub-id on your entire session (your session only).

It’s installed on www.webmaster.com.ph, it seems to work fine.

I believe DigitalPoint works like that. You might ask around over there.

Digital Point seems to be using this Adsense Revenue Sharing plugin without a problem.

I had a friend who tried clicking on his own adsense - his account got banned by Google.

There’s no point in cheating it … they will find you out via the clickthrough rate (and probably IP). So organic (not “looks organic”) is the only way to go.

How about displaying the username associated with the pub-id beside the ad? I think that solves the problem.

Most revenue sharing sites (like ours) doesn’t show users their own AdSense ads, thus avoiding the problem entirely.

Putting a username next to the ad would be easy enough from a technical standpoint, but might violate the AdSense TOS by drawing undue attention to the ad. I’m not sure.

I’ve used openads on other sites which allows you to block certain IP addresses (or country, or user, etc…) to prevent accidental clicks.

I think it can be used to block users (when logged in) from seeing and clicking their own ads by accident.
