AdSense Going for the Jugular
Posted (Marc) in AdSense, SEO on January-29-2007

It’s official. You can run contextual ads from a different ad network on the same page as Google AdSense (think Google AdSense and Yahoo! Publisher Network ads side by side).

On Nofollow FUD and Personalized Search
Posted (Marc) in SEO on January-29-2007

Graywolf’s nofollow FUD post has all the elements of a linkworthy rant: it’s long, it’s well documented and it’s angry (or seething underneath). With all this FUD thrown our way, I get the feeling that we’re closer to breaking the Google code than Matt gives us credit for. All the talk about 1,000,000 ranking factors, broken site: and link: operators, yesfollow/notrust vs nofollow/yestrust…these smokescreens still work to some extent but with so many brilliant Web engineers shifting focus and jumping the AdSense ship, is it safe to say that it’s only just a matter of time before the code is broken?

Wikipedia Hates SEO
Posted (Marc) in Link Building, SEO on January-24-2007

It’s been widely reported that all external Wikipedia links have been nofollow-ed.

And don’t worry — all links on non-article pages are coded by MediaWiki as “nofollow”, so no spammer gets a page ranking boost from those links when they’re on a user page.–A. B. (talk) 03:33, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Did he say all external links? I can give you three examples showing the complete opposite: here, here and here. I didn’t bother capturing screenshots (who can’t fake a screenshot nowadays anyway), so you’ll have to trust me on this :)

AdSense Revenue Sharing?
Posted (Marc) in AdSense on January-22-2007

I’ve been thinking about implementing an ad revenue sharing scheme on the new SEO Philippines forum. But comments like this scare the shit out of me :)

ive not installed this yet but before i do i just want to ask a question - excuse my ignorance if i have missed something.

from what i have read this is like a banner rotation scheme but for adsense. does this mean each person has to have an adsense account and if so how would i know whos adsense account i am clicking on. (highlights are mine)

Does anyone have real world stories about AdSense sharing and forums?

I’m Shutting Down SEO Philippines
Posted (Marc) in SEO on January-21-2007

…the mailing list that is. To make way for the spanking new home of Filipino SEOs and Internet marketers — the SEO Philippines Forums. I’m inviting both members and non-members to register now :)

Hi everyone,

Late last year I asked the moderators if it was time to move the list to a forum format. There are many benefits to having it in forum format, but the overwhelming one was that it offered better archiving and community building features. The unanimous choice among the moderators was to move to a forum ASAP. I gave myself an early January deadline to purchase and setup a forum which would serve as SEO Philippines new home.

It’s a little late, but it’s done. We’re killing the mailing list and moving to the SEO Philippines Forums at
http://forums.seo.ph. Please sign up now, you can even start posting. We hope you can join us soon at our new home. We thank you for your continued support.

PS.
Btw, we’ll keep the mailing list up until Friday, January 26, 2007. After that, I’ve been given the mandate to execute the death sentence :)

Which is Which
Posted (Marc) in SEO on January-20-2007

Doomday scenarios rock. For most of us, death comes as a shock. But painting doomsday scenarios on screaming titles then backtracking on that preposition, well that just plain sucks. Really.
