Globe Visibility - Finally!
Posted (Marc) in Corporate Shit on October-21-2006

So I signed up for the Globe Visibility mobile broadband service a few days back as a backup to my on again off again PLDT myDSL.

I got the Visibility 2000 package with the matching white Huawei E220 HSDPA USB modem. I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 and the newer Dell models only come with the ExpressCard slot (no PCMCIA) so I couldn’t take the PCMCIA modem (the blue one you see on most marketing collaterals). It actually worked better for me as the USB version is faster as far as data transfer goes (don’t ask me why I’m kbps challenged).

Getting a pure 3G connection in selected areas in Mandaluyong and Pasig is easy when you’re outdoors. When inside my room, the modem automatically shifts to 2G (I get full bar when on 2G which is perfectly fine for the processes I run). I’m no expert when it comes to measuring bandwidth speeds so I just base it on YouTube :) when I’m on 3G, most videos load and play instantly (no buffering). I love the ability to just drive around, run reports and download files. I’ll be putting her through her paces via the webcam and massive file downloading of PC games I bought before at Direct2Drive (1 GB and up). The Download Accelerator Plus panel is hitting 6 to 12 KB per second as I’m writing this piece.

One tip, medyo squatter, but here’s how I get 3G signal indoors. I step out and let the modem get the 3G signal then I slowly back up to my desk. Then it’s 3G surfing all day :) I’ve yet to try the other bundled products like the unlimited Wi-fi and dial up services though as Globe hasn’t emailed me my username/password details yet. I’m not really sure what the turnaround time is for that so I’ll give Globe the benefit of the doubt.

If you’re considering signing up for the service, I highly recommend The Hub at Podium. Star and Francis, the people who processed my application, are by far the best customer-facing Globe people I’ve transacted with. The guys over at Globe Megamall are the worst. Btw, you can reach Francis through +63917-5518000.

Overall I’m happy with the service. I’ve always wanted to have this. I’ve had this picture in my head of being able to go to Borocay or Baguio and still be online to check my online interests.

Slightly OT: Funny but logical post about the Visibility website.

Great Marc, now you have your office anywhere (in Metro Manila at least). And WiFi in Ayala Center, where Globe managed to kick out Airborne.

Migs, not too hard for Globe to do that :) after so many years of broadband, I’ve lowered my expectations considerably. I’m now happy with 2G…3G is just gravy :)

Gloria, I’m not really sure with this, but I think as long as there’s a Globe Handyphone connection, you can surf via 2G.

Noemi on October 22nd, 2006 at 12:07 PM #

oh wow good for you . if it’s USB maybe it can work for MAC? I’ll contact Francis for that.

Miguel A Paraz on October 22nd, 2006 at 12:45 PM #

No, GSM signal does not mean GPRS availability. If your phone has GRPS, try it out first at the locations you want. Most likely that Boracay and Baguio have GPRS, but remote rural areas don’t.

In marketing speak, plain GSM is 2G while GPRS is “2.5G.” Then EDGE (enhanced GPRS) is “2.75G”

Marc on October 22nd, 2006 at 2:15 PM #

Migs, thanks for the clarification :) I guess testing for GPRS/EDGE availability is the first thing to do if one’s interested in the service.

Marc,

Have you tried VoiP on this connection? Skype? YM/MSN How about some video conferencing?

André on November 3rd, 2006 at 4:19 PM #

Hi there.

I am also thinking of getting Globe Visibility. Just one thing, could you do a speed test for us. I want to make sure that it is at least higher than 1MBps. That is the bare minimum for me. :D

One more thing, I need to get some clarifications about this service. I called the Glboe Cust. Care and they said that not every part of metro manila has 3G connectivity. Now, on their website, they say that the City of Paranaque is covered. Does this mean anywhere I am in Paranaque, I can get the HSDPA speeds on my Macbook Pro? If so, this would be contradictory to what Cust. Service said. She said that only some part of Paranaque are covered.

A little help would be nice. Thanks again.

Marc on November 3rd, 2006 at 5:06 PM #

Rhea, yup Fernando and I tried Skype and YM. Haven’t tried video conferencing yet.

Andre, sorry I haven’t really tried it down south. Best people to ask would be Abe or Jayvee.

I did a few speed tests just now using the tool suggested by J. Angelo above. Here are the results:

Test 1 (connecting to Los Angeles)
Download: 621 kbps
Upload: 233 kbps

Test 2 (connecting to New York)
Download: 461 kbps
Upload: 320 kbps

Test 3 (connecting to Hong Kong)
Download: 785 kbps
Upload: 295 kbps

Test 4 (connecting to London)
Download: 482 kbps
Upload: 314 kbps

If you run the test again on the same location, you get a different measure, sometimes higher sometimes lower so I’m sure the above rates are not representative of the ‘average’.

sPieZ on November 10th, 2006 at 9:49 AM #

Hello Andre,

Talked to a customer sales rep. She said that if a 3G-capable phone registers 3G connectivity beside the signal bar, it means the specific point you’re at is HSDPA(3.5G) capable.

Hope this helps.

Hi Marc!
Was you’re service disrupted during typhoons? If yes, how long?

Thanks!

Marc on November 10th, 2006 at 5:51 PM #

Spiez, sorry I got the plan after Milenyo so I can’t say I’ve experienced weather-induced downtimes :)

Alex on November 28th, 2006 at 4:09 PM #

Hi Marc,

I am also a current subscriber of Globe Visibility (I think it was almost at the same time you had yours). I actually took it in desperation since my other ISP (Smartbro) experienced a lot of connection problems after Milenyo. I don’t recommend Smartbro since their customer service sucks. Anyway, going back to Globe Visibility, I do have a need to clarify some things about your connection and maybe you know someone who can shed light to this. When my connection was activated, I think it was Nov. 4, I really had a very good 3G connection (NOTE: not HSDPA). Then after just 10 days, the connection slowed down to GPRS/EDGE (which sucks). GPRS/EDGE is almost as slow as a dial-up connection. By the way, I’m using Globe Visibility in Marilao, Bulacan most of the time. When I first took this subscription, I specifically asked if 3G was available here in Bulacan, (Globe personnel in SM Marilao answered yes to this) so I took it without batting an eyelash. Here’s my problem now, since the third week of November, the only connection speed I get is GPRS/EDGE which sucks (oops I already mentioned that). Were you also promised a 3G connection anywhere in the Philippines all the time or some of the time? Do you think it was fraudulent on the part of Globe to inform people that Globe Visibility is available anywhere in the Philippines in 3G speeds? (You can see this on their flyers) I have nothing against Globe since I had been their customer for many years now (still am) but I am concerned that somehow I do feel that I am being duped paying for a supposed 3G connection and only getting a 2G/2.5G connection. I would like to add that whenever I’m in Ortigas, I also only get GPRS/EDGE connection. Only when I’m in Makati do I ever get a 3G connection. How come?

abe bayquen on December 11th, 2006 at 11:14 PM #

Hello… i am a globe visibility user too… very new user… not a month yet…

I have a question… is it true that aside from the 2K/monthly globe will add additional costs to that depending how much data you downloaded?

i ask because when i got my subscription approved the lady at the globe center said visibility is for web browsing only and additional downloads will be charged. i was in a hurry at that time so i was not able to inquire more…

i am a very internet user, i download huge files i need for work… i am worried that when i go to pay my first bill it would not only be 2K…

have you experienced something like this with your visibility account? did they charge to additional for huge file downloads?

Emil go on December 18th, 2006 at 10:15 AM #

We have also got Globe Visibility and Huawei E220. We would not recommend it for anyone who thinks that Globe Visibility can replace your ADSL or cable internet at home, since we have received very little signal in the condominium that we live, which is in Ortigas Center, Pasig (Renaissance 3000 to be precise). We are actually very frustrated with the service, and are thinking of returning the gear.

Emil go on December 18th, 2006 at 10:23 AM #

I did not read the response when I wrote the last message. Someone wanted to know the connection speed of Globe Visibility. Occasionally we can get some signal from a particular location in the condominium, and according to pcpitstop.com’s test, download speed was about 90kbps. I tried to use it in Megamall, but in many spots, there are no signal, such as G/F LeCoure DeFrance, and others, they give you Globe Quest. If you need to use a lot of internet, Globe Visibility alone is not good enough, and certainly not something you can rely on to work anywhere.

Marc on December 18th, 2006 at 12:26 PM #

Hi guys, I asked someone from Globe if they could help out by posting via comments their official replies and/or their contact information so you can resolve your issues offline.

Alex, I hope Globe Visbility customer service is listening :) not being able to get 3G in the areas you need it the most would be a deal breaker for me too.

Abe, I think depende sa plan mo. If you got the unlimited version, there’s no per usage fee whatsoever.

Emil, I also have the E220 modem and it’s been acting up lately. My laptop can’t detect it. I’ve already tried the usual remedies (to no avail) so I’ve already requested for a replacement unit. It seems the waiting period for getting a replacement E220 modem is longer, palaging out of stock sa Ortigas area.

juan on December 19th, 2006 at 12:47 PM #

hey if anyone is willing to return the gear, i’m willing to pick up the plan, if your interested, as long as its an huawei e220 usb device, email me squirt5x@yahoo.com

Awie on December 22nd, 2006 at 11:50 PM #

Does anyone know if Vonage works if one is using Globe 3G? I want to get Globe Visibility but I don’t really know if it’ll work with Vonage (which works with any DSL connection as long as there’s a router).

James on December 29th, 2006 at 2:26 AM #

Hey guys! I am a subscriber for 2 months now and so far im happy. Ive tried it in Paranaque area and as far as Fairview using different computers, so far so good.

Marc - You said your laptop cant detect the E220? I also experienced that and what I normally do is to remove the unti and restart the pc/laptop, OR temporarily switch to manual for network search, then click Globe.

Abe - Its absolutely free. You can download anything you want all day/night long.

Awie - Not sure about Vonage but I think it will work. I have already tried Yahoo voice and Skype, its surprisingly clear.

Happy New Year everyone!

Marc on December 29th, 2006 at 9:54 AM #

James, not that type of detection. My modem can’t be detected on the OS level. I already asked for a replacement but E220 supplies are currently out of stock.

Have you guys tried using the sim card to make calls? I was playing with it last week and I was able to successfully make voice calls and send/receive SMS. Anyone know the rate for this?

Ian on January 8th, 2007 at 10:29 AM #

I’m not sure if its the earthquake that hit Taiwan or what, but so far the speed I’ve been getting from my E220 has been slower than dial up. I live near Libis and I only get 1 bar when using HSPDA signal. Whats worse is my download speed is at a dismal 25Kbps (according to bandwidthplace.com and cnet.com. I then tried local sites and still the same. I tried accessing the sites using my regular DSL connection and there seems to be no problem with them. The next test is in my office in Valenzuela. HSPDA signal is 4 bars. Speed is 34Kbps. Useless! Tried my regular DSL connection, the sites that I go to are ok. My wife gave birth in Medical City along Ortigas, UMTS connection, 20Kbps. So for P2000 I’m actually getting slower than dial up speeds. I’ve only been a subscriber for less than a week and would like to return the unit, but I have to pay a termination fee of P11 thousand plus. That’s where Globe grabs you by the balls and squeezes it tight till the 24th month of service.

Miguel on January 8th, 2007 at 11:49 PM #

Yes it’s due to the earthquake. Globe’s capacity is affected.

Marc on January 13th, 2007 at 5:30 PM #

What I want to know is will they offer a rebate or a discount. The level of service is clearly not what we paid for.

ibm_2100 on January 14th, 2007 at 12:19 PM #

Globe has been very sloooooow to fix this problem. I thought I would give them 2 more months, and if things didn’t change, might as well return the product. I might just use my N6680 and use prepaid SMART 3G instead.

xenie on January 19th, 2007 at 3:32 PM #

I’ve had my Huawei USB since October 17 - and u’re right SM Megamall people suck. I waited for my unit for 2 weeks . They sent me a message that I could pick it up.. and guess what, they questioned me if i received a call saying that my unit is available… then they had to wait for a personnel to release my unit ( i was there at 5pm & this personnel’s shift starts 6PM)…

now back to the service… here in Binondo, I get full bar 3G signal… that is if the day is clear… when rain comes, it’s edge or gprs for me… but speed is still faster than our office pldtdsl… at home (guiguinto, bulacan), half of my room gets perfect 3G signal.. but the rest of the house only has gprs signal which is slower that pldt vibe & pacific unlimited…

after the TW quake, i have not been able to access lots of sites, including youtube… and upload/download bandwidth seems to be lower… but then, compared to pldt dsl, my globe visibility is functioning very well… since dec.26, we would have to call pldt dsl’s helpline every other day just to get a decent connection…

with the charges, the contract states UNLIMITED INTERNET CONNECTION (this includes using WAP on your cellphone).. on my first month, we were charged for GPRS connection over WAP, but they reversed the charges and I only had to pay 2K…

International Roaming is now available but the charges of Globe’s overseas partners will apply… guess it would still be cheaper than paying $10/15mins of wi-fi at the hotel… i haven’t tried this yet but I’ll let you know as soon as I bring my visiblity abroad…

Ronald S Tumulak on January 22nd, 2007 at 4:43 PM #

Been using Visibility since the last week of September. I’m quite satisfied with it, testing it in various environments. While driving in Manila roads, I am averaging 600 Kbps with the occasional faltering if I get in dead spots or under tunnels. In Greenbelt 3, I’ve managed to hit 1.1 Mbps sustained. In RCBC Plaza 3rd floor (just outside Starbucks), I got 1.4 Mbps sustained for the most part. There are places though that are funny, like my office in the 43rd floor of RCBC Plaza. There’s a spot near my table where I cannot go higher than 300 Kbps, but if I move it about 5 feet away, I suddenly get 850 Kbps :)

My only gripe is that when I got my Visibility account, they only had the E620 at that time which is PCMCIA based, which is okay when I was still using an older Thinkpad. After switching to a newer Core 2 Duo Asus, I realized the new notebook only had an Express card. Which made my E620 useless. I’ve tried getting it replaced with an E220 but it was refused by Globe at the Digital Exchange (where I got th Visibility). I even offered a willingness to pay for the E220 but they refused. Wow, great customer service for an early adopter. I asked for converter or at least to point me out to suppliers of PCMCIA-USB converters, but they can’t help me on it either. Wow. So I only get to use the card when using the older Celeron-based Thinkpad.

I hope Globe does not penalize early adopters who got the bad luck of getting the E620, since it was the only available model at that time. But it seems they don’t care. They refuse to replace it since it really isn’t damaged. Fair enough. But they should help make the E220 available for those who need it, especially those who are willing to pay. I don’t know, maybe it is available but Globe sure isn’t writing anything on their website about it. Has Globe really gone that bad in terms of customer support? Sure, I got mad at the people at that Globe lounge at the Digital Exchange, but it’s because they were so dismissive of my request, treating me as if I can’t read, as their manager asked me on the phone “Di ba we have a contract?” Well obviously I know. That is why I am seeking support.

Sorry for the gripe, but I just thought that your readers should make sure to get (demand for!) the E220 USB-based modem when getting Visibility to avoid getting stuck with the soon-to-be obsoleted PCMCIA-based modems. Caveat emptor.

xenie on January 30th, 2007 at 1:37 PM #

i did try locking the datacard to 3G only… problem is, pag nawala ang signal ng 3g, completely nawawala ang connection… even if you are not moving, there is a tendency na mawala ang 3g signal… I even think na pag natatapatan ng electric fan yung huawei e nawawala na ang 3G… better pa rin ang 3G preferred setting…

n3o on February 20th, 2007 at 2:36 AM #

Guys, I need your feedback regarding this…

I just got my Globe Visibility activated today and I did go to youtube.com right away to test the speed. Unfortunately, I’ve experienced a poor connection. So I’ve searched on Google trying to find some tweaks to fix the issue and I found this blog. I went to speedtest.net to run another test then I found out that my download is only 104 kbps. and lesser for my upload.

I have a Mac iBook G4 and is using the Huawei E220 as my modem. Does anyone here knows how to tweak the settings so I could get a faster connection?

Thanks and hope someone could help me with this.

I have this subscription for 2 days now and all I can say is that this is not worth the cost. I am wondering if I can cancel my contract. I am leaving near Mega Mall and got EDGE most of the time. Connection speed is shown as ~280kbps but actual speed is close to dial up. Good thing is the E220 can give you the actual speeds. Most of the time it is way below 56kbps (wired dial-up connection). I am not sure if they have problem now (Globe) but if not… please guys do yourself a favor don’t subscribe to this service. Try to get wired/dsl/cable subscription.

I have been commenting everywhere I can see a review about Globe Visibility just to get other people know about this service.

Please visit the following blog every now and then since I am trying to track the speed of the connection.

For the next few days I will put average speed and maximum speed as reported by performance counter \\RAS Port{COM port used by E220}\Bytes Received/sec and \\RAS Port{COM port used by E220}\Bytes Transmitted/sec

i’ve been having difficulty in getting a good enough speed (bittoreent speed) whenever i’m in Metro Manila. but when i am in Bulacan, I get full bar HSDPA signal. Does this mean that visibility network in manila is already congested? Calling GlobE! think you need to upgrade, your HSDPA network to accomodate all your subscribers!

by the way, our office accountant (who pays for my Visibility bill) told me that Globe has credited 500pesos to our account. Rebate daw for the Dec26 quake inconvenience with the network. I was so happy about this. We experienced almost a week of no connection with PLDT dsl and Pacific Internet. Pacific & Globe gave an advisory: SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE etc., but PLDT did not do anything at all. My visibility was in normal working condition then.. how come that Globe was the one giving out rebates when PLDT & Pacific should have been the ones refunding to their clients?

I have a question to current Globe Visibility users:

Lately I’ve been experiencing problems with sending Outlook emails using Globe Visibility. This was not so when I first signed up with the service. I’ve been tinkering with my email account settings, particularly my outgoing mail server (SMTP), but to no avail.

I called up Globe to relay this problem, they just told me they don’t know anything about it.

Have you been experiencing the same problems as of late? Does Globe Visibility, like other ISPs, have its own outgoing mail server that I could probably use to be able to send emails?

Thanks in advance.

Bryan P. on April 4th, 2007 at 1:21 AM #

I figured it out na!

Globe Visibility’s SMTP is mail.globenet.com.ph. And make sure that the box beside “Your outgoing mail server (SMTP) requires authentication” under Outgoing Server of More Settings is unchecked.

The above applies to MS Outlook 2003.

Ryan Ericson Canlas on April 13th, 2007 at 11:49 AM #

Here are my observations regarding the performance of GLOBE VISIBILITY in my area. I believe this will also work fine in the provinces like Pampanga (GPRS) and Subic (3G) since my mother has been using one for mobility.

Personal Test Settings: 3G Preferred (HSDPA)

420.00 kbps - MOBILE CONNECT (Local Application)
265.40 kbps - 2WIRE SPEED METER (http://www.2wire.com/bandwidth/initialmeter.php)
203.43 kbps - BAYANTEL DOWNLOAD SPEED CHECKER (http://speed.skyinet.net/)
247.99 kbps - GLOBEQUEST BANDWIDTH METER (http://utilities.globequest.com.ph/)
257.50 kbps - PLDT PLAY - BANDWIDTH METER (http://210.5.68.202/speed/initialmeter.php)

I tried running some flash sites like www.vectorgate.com and tried www.youtube.com and performance seem okay. Access to San Miguel Corporations’s VPN via Aventail also seem fast enough compared to conventional dial-up. Remote Accessing via RDP is fast as well as with PCAnywhere. Speed seem better for a wireless and sometimes comparable to my wired Globelines Broadband at 384Kbps. No intermittent connection problem was experienced unlike with my wired DSL even while driving.

The only problem is had so far was its compatibility with Windows Vista. Even with the presence of tweaks and NOD drivers for E220, Vista detects the device as a CD-ROM or a storage device. Upon access of its content via Windows Explorer, an error is encountered saying that the structure of the device is either damaged or corrupted. The use of Windows XP drivers seem not possible also.

David on April 17th, 2007 at 2:21 PM #

Having hard time sending out emails thru my POP3 and SMTP. Anyone else having problems? This started happening only 2 weeks ago.

Another note - has anyone tried remotely connecting to a computer/laptop with Visibility using remote softwares like VNC, MSN IM remote assistance, PCAnywhere?

Thanks.

I just subscribed to Globe Visibility last month and was pretty impressed with it during the first two weeks. Now, however, I’ve been experiencing a lot of shutters, especially when I’m in our place in Caloocan — which is kindof weird because two weeks ago, I was able to get a reasonably fast connection here.

I’ve been getting the same problems that most of you guys have (hard to get 3G connection). Even in Ortigas, I get GPRS connection lang which is really slow too.

Just NOW, I’m having problems with my connection again. My HUAWEI status says it’s connected at 3.6 Mbps but oddly, I cannot open any site. Can’t connect YM too. Can’t pretty much do any online activity. PFT.

I tried calling Globe’s customer service, and this girl who took my call, Drew, was very nice naman, but she didn’t sound like she knew the product at all. She just instructed me to change the connection preference from “3G Preferred” to “3G Only” (but of course I already tried that), and when it didn’t work, she made me change it back. And since it didn’t work again, she said she’s gona make a progress report and check to see if there’s any problem with Globe’s cell sites in our area, etc, and call me back if she found something. BUT OF COURSE that’s obviously just protocol — to say they’re gona make a report when they dont know what to do na, and I know better than to believe she was really gona call me back.

So to make the long story short, she wasn’t any help at all din.

So okaay. I’m using dialup now to find HELP online, and I was brought BACK to this post, and I realized that I wasn’t alone. I’m a very loyal Globe user, but right now, I just don’t think I’m getting what I’m paying for.

riz think its k lang that u get to do stuff online no matter what ksi sa DSL ka kapag patay yung conextion patay na talaga.

Got the same problem here. It’s been almost a week now. Connection thru public internet is not working ok. I tried to VPN to my office and connect from there and everything seems to be okay. Looks like GLOBE have DNS issues or something. Hope they can fix this soon.

Karen on May 17th, 2007 at 7:49 PM #

Hi guys! I’ve been using Visibility for the past 4 months. And the past two weeks has been the worst. Globe keeps saying that there is nothing wrong on their end. They are insisting that it is probably because of me laptop. My laptop has been the same since i started using Visibility. so they can’t use that as an excuse.

Do you guys have any idea how we can get past this? 2,000 a month is too much for bad connection and bad service

Bryanboy on May 18th, 2007 at 6:20 AM #

Hey guys!

I wrote about Globe Visibility on my blog. I’ve been experiencing terrible service for the past 10 days. I even recorded the phone conversation I had with their customer service.

http://www.bryanboy.com/bryanboy_le_superstar_fab/2007/05/globe_visibilit.html

Baboosh! :)

brian on May 18th, 2007 at 1:28 PM #

Karen on May 18th, 2007 at 8:38 PM #

Super terrible service. Pinuntahan ko nga kanina sa business center and the guy there was so cocky it pissed me off more. ARAW ARAWIN KO KAYA SILA hahaha. That will make them really come out bad.

I just texted an old classmate who’s working pala sa globe. It turns out na may problem daw ang 3g network for the past 4 days. NOBODY from service center ever admitted about having a problem. He said baka hindi nagbabasa ng feedreader nila..

I hope they can fix this.

Brian, sayang naman yung binabayad mo every month… Is there a way that you can get out of the contract? Kasi they are not giving us what we pay for eh

brian on May 19th, 2007 at 11:37 AM #

E, how come maski san ko ilagay, ganun pa rin? nun pumunta ako Globe business center nung May 14 kasi naiinis na talaga ako, they admitted having a 3g problem.

This is so not worth it. 2000 pesos for a gprs speed connection! i have written a blog na rin about this. dati ok talaga service as i have written sa blog ko,pero now, araw araw ako magbblog sa different blogs ko until maayos yan.

i want to let people know naman what they will get from their 2000 bucks.

badtrip, i call globe everyday to check on their system. 2 weeks ago kesyo may upgrade sa QC. Then last week, may problem areas sa makati. Wednesday last week naman may nationwide problem sa infrastructure. I already asked for adjustment sa billing and sabi naman nung customer service saka na daw mag request pag stable na yung connection. This is so not worth the 2k you have to pay every month! Connection drops every 5 minutes or so.. GRRRRRR!!!

chris diestro on May 23rd, 2007 at 10:54 AM #

Effective May 15, 2007, hindi na free yung PCMCIA card. P11k na siya. Tapos P3,000.00 na ang MSF. So not affordable.

Karen on May 23rd, 2007 at 11:16 AM #

guys, try to get a refund for this. If ayaw nilang pumayag, we can all file a complaint against them sa DTI.

I’m thinking of having to preterminate this connection and I have to think of a way na favorable to us consumers.

They are so way off their advertised information.

Anyone of you have similar problems with Globe visibility recently?

I am getting a very slow connection within this past 2 weeks so i complained to globe. I called their 211 hotline, they put me on hold and after few minutes, line got dropped. Thinking maybe cell problem, i called using a landline phone. The agent told me that they are currently upgrading their cell site. When i raised the topic of how long i should wait before they fix the problem because for a lousy speed and 2k bill is not worth it, i was once again put on hold and eventually i got disconnected again?!!
I can’t believe i have a problem on my cell or my landline were every call of mine got disconnected. Called the 3rd time and they told me to call 7518888 for visibility inquiries (why in the hell did they not tell me this earlier) so i called the number…and guess what?
I got a prompt of ” please hold while we wait for available agent..blah blah”…then long silence for 10-15 minutes. I called 7518888 once again, the same problem. Due to my frustration, i rushed to globe center and complained directly.
I was entertained properly.

They told me that is is due to the election??!! Opening my laptop, i showed them how FAST the HSDA is. I also told them that GPRS is suppose to be as fast as DSL which is not!
Using HSDPA signal, full strength, i can’t even open a single site without waiting for about 2-3 minutes.

Globe has too many excuses.

toni on May 24th, 2007 at 9:11 AM #

Hi guys, Globe Visibility does suck. I’ve filed a formal complaint and their Customer Engagement group replied promptly. Because of the deterioriation in their service this May, they proposed that I do not have to pay for one month’s cycle. Let’s see if they follow through on this.

I suggest you do the same thing and forward your complaints to Mr. Lance Martinez, head of the Customer Engagement group.

If there is justice, they will apply that one-month free resolution to all those who’ve been victimized by their terrible product.

GlobeGPRS on May 24th, 2007 at 11:46 AM #

Well, Globe Visibility should be advertised as Mobile GPRS (not Mobile Broadband). For those who want dial-up speeds only while on the move AND if you are using the E220 USB modem, pls follow these settings: Choose Connection Type -> GPRS only. Band Selection -> GSM900/1800/WCDMA2100. That will do the trick. You can surf the internet wherever there’s Globe signal. At least you have net connection. Mabagal nga lang.

Karen on May 25th, 2007 at 10:09 AM #

Is it true na MSF will be 3,000 na?

Ah, nobody could help, i’ve been to the business center again. Didnt receive any feedback from them yet. Its been more than a week already. All they could say was andami ko na daw finile na complaint. They will get back to me. Duh.

shadow77phl on June 1st, 2007 at 9:29 AM #

this is a copy that i sent to custhelp@globetel.com.ph to document my complaint:

im a current globe platinum subscriber and a visibility subscriber for a little less than two months now. i have been calling 188 almost everyday for the past 1 month as i first brought up my complaint on may 4, 2007, a couple of days since i got the huawei kit that was sent to me by your sales people. unfortunately and apparently this problem was never resolved by globe and this is not limited to me or my area or my hardware for that matter as there were a lot of subscribers similarly situated as me; check the web, and you would realize that there is a deluge of complaints out there.

before i got the visibility line that i had, i was using a dial-up internet, i was reviewing the service on line and it was getting good reviews, yet i was skeptic and tried globe’s data transfer capability or internet capability using my nokia n70 as a modem on one of my postpaid lines (09173121900), cross- check it with my april bill for which i was charged 600 something for internet browsing. at that time, i was getting a speed of 480 kbps. wow! so i subscribed to visibility, only to find out that the speed the huawei e220 provided was 236.8 kbps! at that speed, i would have been satisfied compared to my 33.6 dial-up speed, who would not be? but when i checked your service’s real time speed using no less than your globequest visibility bandwidth meter, i am getting speeds way below the indicated speed on the icon and certainly way below the speed globe so proudly advertised.

this is certainly not i signed up for, PHP2000 for the speed(s) im getting? attached are screenshots of my real time speed. a certain platinum customer service rep ive talked with, i think her name is divine or divina, who incidentally was so nice, told me that she would request for a waiver of my may bill; fantastic! but this is my predicament, it seemed to me that globe is not doing anything about this or if you did, it is almost a month and nothing had happened, would that translate to a very poor action on the other departments? perhaps the network technical team is not doing what they are supposed to do or perhaps they know what the problem really is but they cannot solve it since the problem is the bandwidth is so congested as globe had been selling the service like hotcake and yet the network cannot handle the traffic resulting to its apparent congestion. i dont know, i could only speculate because nobody is giving me and my fellow dissatisfied subscribers the answer to our querries.

i have been a globe subscriber for a little over four years now with an average consumption of more than the average consumer (check my account details) and a very good debtor as there was never a time that i was delayed on my payment for the past four years (between 19-20 of each month), never was i delinquent for once. but i am a discerning client as reflected by your targeted market and hence i always demand for good service, i always do.

our contract is bilateral and reciprocal, my obligation as a client is to pay the service provided for by your company, your company’s obligation on the other hand is to reciprocally provide me with the service agreed upon. certainly, that service agreed upon is not 2000/ month for 24 months for a dial-up speed, it is for broadband speed; that is a breach of contract for your part entitling me the right to rescind the same, im sure your legal department can explain this further.

i had a god run with globe for the past four years and would want to be with you for the next four years, but unless i get an affirmative and concrete action on the problem i raised (which remained unanswered as of this day), i will sever my business relationship with you company. please, act on this.

Robin Lim on June 4th, 2007 at 7:27 AM #

@shadow

Reading your post, some of your problems could be related to the network congestion, others to device settings. Try setting your Huawei e220 to “3G only” in its network settings.

Nino on June 4th, 2007 at 12:22 PM #

I’ve tried using my dad’s globe visibility unit, but i could never get any 3G signal from my house in Paranaque. Most of the time it reverts to EDGE or GPRS since that’s the only signal i could pick up, even then, it takes me forever to load webpages. It’s even worse than using dial-up.

Initially, i was thinking my dad probably got a defective unit, but after reading all your posts here, i realized that the unit is not the problem, the company is!

This is sad because i was planning to subscribe to this service so i can surf/download/play games while i’m in the apartment, but after reading all your comments, i’m just gonna find another company who can give me better service.

Karen on June 10th, 2007 at 10:48 AM #

Globe gave me 1 monthly service fee reversal.. But that doesn’t solve things. The speed still sucks. And its getting worse.

pow on June 10th, 2007 at 10:27 PM #

I live in the QC area and my system connects only using GPRS/EDGE. Whenever I try to switch to “3G Only,” no network is detected so I have to revert back to “3G Preferred,” which is about as fast as my dial-up connection. Is it safe to assume that there is no 3G coverage in my area?

Robin Lim on June 11th, 2007 at 8:10 AM #

If you switch it to 3G only, and it does not detect a signal it means either that there is no 3G network in your area or there could be a temporary problem. This are a list of areas in QC covered by our database:

Just got my globe visibility from a friend. so far the connection is ok but not good enough. i use 3G only and am able to connect inside my house (fort bonifacio area) with 2 bars of HSDPA or UMTS. but i would still prefer a DSL connection over this. it’s not stable and sometimes it’s really slow. anyway, wanted to know if anyone of you out there knows how to i can set up my pc to be the server (connect visibility in my pc and use a wireless router) so that i can connect my laptop to the router and get internet connection in both the pc and laptop.

QWE got visibility some months back acyually I had a friend get it cuz I was out of town n I needed some fast inet connection as soon as I fly in to drive to Ilocos..I was happy knowing 3G might not be available in most places.First I had some questions and went to Robinsons onPedro Gill the people there are useless they even had the gall to refer me to a guard under the guise of being their technical person. Im avery busy person and havent had time to raise hell on this.
Anyway my problem now is we live in the XaviervillII area in Loyola nad we only get 236 kbps signals and we feel shortchanged??HELP what can we do !!!!

i also use my Nokia 6600 as modem whenever i go to the barrio, GPRS signal is abundant wherever you are, depending on you’re carrier i guess. Surfing the net using GPRS is not fast enough but the speed is acceptable for checking email, chatting or just plain surfing. The kbps connection speed that you see on you computer may not be accurate, wherein i can also connect at the speed of 980kbps but when i test the speed of data transfer using the speedtest.net i only get something like 32kbps - i think this is the actual data transfer rate of my connection.

reggie on September 26th, 2007 at 6:12 PM #

what is happening? 1.4MBps as promised and i get only to a peak of 149kpbs. is this normal? can anyone point me to a technical support for visibility? i reside at sta lucia pasig but at any area, even in makati, i get the same speed result. is there something wrong with the huawei device?

Has anything ever came out of all endless litanies of complaints and dissatisfaction with the undelivered promises of Globe Visibility?

I fired my own share of complaints the first few weeks of getting my subscription in every blog I can find that I got tired of doing so because it proved to be an exercise in utmost futility.

After more than half a year of bearing with the disgusting service being provided by Globe Visibility, I can see that others are still being duped into this scam as well.

Is there something that can be done to make Globe live up to its promises?

Bryan P. on February 4th, 2008 at 4:09 PM #

Why don’t we disgruntled Visibility users file a class suit against Globe? This has a bigger impact than us complaining individually to their inept customer service agents.

I say a one-month rebate is not enough. Let us pursue a more just compensation for the headaches and disappointments that we are experiencing to this day. Let us push for the pre-termination of our 2-year contract PLUS refund of our subscription from the time our internet speed went down to dial-up levels.

I can get us a lawyer and I know some people from media who could help us in endeavor. I also suggest that we put up an email group for better coordination.

Email me at reptile26@yahoo.com if you’re interested.

Regards,

Bryan

I subscribed to visibilty on a promise of 3g soon in Palawan. After 1 year with only one cell site in puerto princesa enable3d 3g.I cancelled the service.Pity because the smart bro which began so well down here in the country nhow sucks every day from lack of internet connection(not connection to the server but the servers to internet)dont hesitate to cancel thay have so many complaints they never can sue each of us.

I may be one of the few contented users. I noticed something. When I work in high ceiling areas (warehouse in QC), I get good speed. My current top rate is at 1.3mbps. Whenever I use it at home, don’t count on it. But when I go to our watch tower (our fifth floor, GH area), i get decent but not so good signal (around 230kbps). good thing I have DSL in our house or else, this will su*k big time!

Uploading rate sucks at any place and any time!

after looking at that list of robin for places with hsdpa, am now thinking of getting a hsdpa phone to make full use of visibility on the go…

now heres the problem… the asus eee pc is just as expensive as the hsdpa phones in the market..

do i go for portability with the phone or use the eee pc and my visiblity on the go? which will mean i have to leave my macbook pro at home.. hmmm

Robin Lim on March 15th, 2008 at 12:18 PM #

Why not get the best of both worlds. Get the Asus PCEee, and sign up for a Smart Gold post paid line and avail of a nice 3G phone.

Often times these days, the Nokie E61i Smart gave me keeps the laptop home. Only drawback with this option is the maximum speed of 384kbps.

dwade on March 30th, 2008 at 3:01 AM #

fyi, HSDPA means High-Speed Downlink Packet Access — which means it is only optimized for downloads. Upload speeds are expected to be slwoer than download because it is a limitation of the technology.

@al romary - there might be a lot of visibility subscribers around your area — note that the bandwidth that a cell site can give is divided among along of those who are connected.

probably, Globe is saying that the area is HSDPA enabled — however, it would be good if they would do analysis if the network in that area can accomodate the number of HSDPA subs in that area.

Probably the reason why they are not doing this is because as a visibility subscriber, you are always on the move. therefore, getting usage stats for each site would be next to impossible.

eloy pancho on April 19th, 2008 at 4:36 PM #

haha..seems like i have the worst problem among us..GV is almost totally useless for me..its normal speed is just 5kbps, here in my place near SM Fairview…but even though i use it from my office at Ortigas, i get the same problem..the highest speed my GV - 3g with hsdpa can get is 49kbps (what fration is this by the promised 3mbps..?) and that is only at off-peak hours, when people are supposed to be in deep sleep already..so, i don’t recommend GV at all..i will instead look for ways to cancel my subscription and stop paying for nothing anymore..
