Todd Malicoat and Rand Fishkin were generous with their 5-minute link value test and quick strength tool posts. Both dealt with ways on how to measure the value of a link vis-a-vis the page where the link is hosted. I’m in the position now to start experimenting with presell pages or hosted marketing pages (they mean the same thing, just branded different by Jim of WeBuildPages and Jarrod of TextLinkBrokers). Will Rand and Todd’s link value tests apply to presell/hosted marketing pages?
Some might, but I think this product is a completely different animal.
- What’s the industry practice for linking the presell pages with the rest of the site and the Internet at large?
- Is it true that most sites will not directly link to a presell page from a homepage?
- If that’s the case, do I need to build links to the presell page?
- Am I just in the end buying the host’s trust rating, i.e. soon-to-be trusted link existing on a soon-to-be trusted page on an already trusted site? Why don’t I just buy the link outright?
- Can I minimize the risk of the presell page ranking higher than the target page on my site, e.g. this presell page ranking higher for the target page for [presell pages]
- What’s the usual editorial policy on these pages? Can prominent call-to-actions be placed on these pages?
- Aside from the trust, traffic and prominence factor, what else affects the pricing of presell pages?
