Any New AdSense Tip?
Posted (Marc) in SEO on April-6-2006

I’m a sucker for how-to articles containing tips for increasing Google AdSense revenues. But lately, most of the tips being thrown around aren’t all that new. Case in point: Kalena Jordan’s Ten Steps to Boost Your AdSense Commission.

Dream Ad Spots
Posted (Marc) in SEO on April-4-2006

Introducing the new Clutter:

Fanciful? Perhaps not. You have heard of product placement in movies and video games but scientists and marketers have now cracked the code for entering a new channel: advertising in your dreams.

Coca Cola, Speedo and Nike are just three of the many mega-brands that are exploring this new medium called in-sleep advertising. While still in its infancy, eMarketer forecasts in-sleep advertising spending in the US to grow to over $3 billion by 2020, up from less than one million in 2005.

Nevin Fester of In-Sleep, a leader in providing in-sleep marketing solutions, explains the origins of the medium: “There are only 24 hours in the day according to most physicists,” he said. “We’ve been lobbying the stubborn bunch for years to increase this but all we got in 2006 was an extra second! So we thought, the average person sleeps 7 to 8 hours a day. Let’s tap into that. To use a metaphor, let’s utilize this computing resource while it is in screensaver mode.”

Why stop at ads? Imagine being able to sleep with a different celebrity each night, in your dreams of course.

Google on the Business of Click Fraud
Posted (Marc) in PPC, AdSense, SEO on April-4-2006

Google CEO Eric Schmidt on click fraud:

“Believe me, as a computer scientist, we have the ability to detect the invalid clicks before they reach advertisers,” says Schmidt, who has a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of California, Berkeley. “The attacks on us are easily detected.”

Schmidt declines to say how pervasive the click scams are or how, exactly, his company combats them. Doing so would help the fraudsters, he says. Schmidt says shareholders shouldn’t worry: Google monitors every click and refunds advertisers for many of the phony ones. (highlights are mine)

If only the world was that perfect :)

AdSense in the Philippines
Posted (Marc) in SEO on April-1-2006

Just caught a short snippet featuring some Filipino AdSense publishers:

Because Adsense earnings can vary widely depending on a site’s traffic or subject matter, many Web publishers in the developed world don’t bother participating. Whereas a $25 monthly payout may not be worth the trouble to a blogger in Manhattan, it can mean the world to a blogger in Manila.

Andrew de la Serna runs a small search engine in Davao City, Philippines, and derives about 40% of his monthly income from Adsense. “It’s great to do what you love to do and earn money from it at the same time,” he says.

His earnings have allowed him to purchase a cellphone, develop new websites, and build up his savings account.

Dr. Rodolfo Rafael, who owns a small medical clinic in San Fabian, Philippines, says the Adsense earnings from his medical website allow him to “dream big” and reinvest in his medical practice.

Andrew, I’m suprised you even included the cellphone in the list ;)
