AdSense the Sandbox Killer?

SEO

Inspired by Rob Sullivan’s How to beat the Google Sandbox post, I’ve decided to conduct my own experiment. Rob’s hypothesis which we want to test is this: Google AdSense can get a site out of the Google Sandbox.

Scuba/Diving Blog

  • Domain created: 2006-01-05
  • Site type: Wordpress Blog
  • Backlinks: zero (as of 02/27/2006)
  • Indexed/cached pages: zero (as of 02/27/2006)
  • AdSense units on site: one (1) 720×90 leaderboard below the header (added 02/27/2006)

How do we know the site’s out of the sandbox? Based on Rob’s comment, to be considered out of the sandbox, the site should be found in Google for medium to high competition terms. His case site received organic traffic from Google within two weeks of adding the AdSense ad unit for the following keywords:

  • [wifi] - 116 million competing sites in Google
  • [portable gaming unit] - 2.3 million competing sites in Google
  • [portable gaming 2006] - 8.2 million competing sites in Google
  • [nintendo ds] - 19 million competing sites
