Hey if pink blogs (you know the screaming adolescent/shopping-centric diaries) can do it, so can you!
My girlfriend’s blog which was launched last month is now showing flashes of PR5 for the homepage.
This is why I love the SEO field so much: first you think you have an idea of how things are the way they are, then something like this comes along and completely obliterates your previous assumptions, forcing you back to the drawing board.
Site Statistics for Sharmskee.com
- Domain Name: www.sharmskee.com
- Domain creation date: January 18, 2006
- 407 backlinks via Yahoo! linkdomain, 99% of which are from my blog’s sidebar.
- 11 blog entries since 01/18/2006
- Aside from permalinks, no deliberate SEO work done.
I know we’ve been taught to ignore that green pixie dust but how is it that her very young, less linked site can get a PR5 and my blog’s still stuck at PR4. Chalk one up for the SEO X-Files.
Yes I’m sourgraping ;)

something with the recent update
maybe theyre giving new sites a PR 5 to start with?

Maybe a sites ability to give PR is different from its own. For instance, my page about Pinoy Search is the top result for [google philippines] besides google.com pages. The only reason I see is Marc’s link on his sidebar.

Interesting post…but is there a way to increase your page rank?
February 26th, 2006 at 8:00 PM
Hahaha.
And you call yourself MR. SEO. Your GF should be the one doing SEO. You’re right Marc, never believe everything you read about SEO.
But SEO is not all PageRank, right? You’re still the best dude. Good luck in China.

Kzap, no I don’t think they’re that generous. That would tip the link popularity balance of power :)
Migs, I think this shows how important link profiles are. If you have a link profile diluted with links from less trusted sites, then you get a lower TBPR. Your next question would probably be “so do you consider Macalua.com a trusted site”. My answer would be a definite “I hope so” :)
Lepto, passing what on?
Citeblogger, you’re welcome!
Jozzua, if you want to contribute on the SEOPhilippines.org blog, I’m sure we can start a broader Internet marketing channel on the blog.
Anne, getting linked to many times (quantity) by authority sites (quality) is the generally accepted formula for increasing TBPR (toolbar PR).
Kates, of course it’s not all about PR :) the good thing about this is, I just realized the linking mojo of this site…
