Forget hat colors. It’s old school vs. new school. Michael “Air” Jordan vs. Kobe “81″ Bryant.
The generation gap has just gotten a little wider.
One things for sure though old timers are going to complain about the youngin’s showin’ no respect and new folks are going to complain about the old geezers thinkin’ they know-it-all.
I may have scored as an Old School, but at times I still feel I’m battling the Old-Old school.
and from this very active post over at Threadwatch:
DaveN: well Mike, Greg and Todd are my friends and I stand by my Friends !! … John Scott can suck my dick :0 in this industry friends are all you ever really have…
John Scott: I believe there is a difference between flaming and discussing. I could of course be childish and tell Mike to suck my dick, but I don’t think that would be the most professional thing to do. Instead I will simply continue to question his criticisms , and point out his the error of his statements…
Me? Well I would like to think I’m a new school SEO with an old soul and a deep respect for all things retro.

Wow my name in print! I’m famous. :P
I belong to no schools. I am John Scott, individual, and I suspect that most SEO’s out there are individuals. Being identified as Old School or New School is of absolutely no value to anyone.
That said, there are newer SEO’s and there are older SEO’s. Age makes little difference - the accuracy of the person’s statemsnts makes difference.
When I read blogs, forums, etc, I look at who supports their statements with evidence, and who just talks to hear himself/herself talk.
And then there are those who do not voice any opinions and just suck up to whoever happens to be popular to suck up to.
