Ask Marc: DrToy Story II
Posted (Marc) in Keyword Research, AdSense, Ask Marc, SEO on January-30-2006

In part 1 of the DrToy Story, we looked at some of the site’s basic search engine profile. This time around, we tackle keyword research.

Every serious SEO campaign should start with a thorough keyword selection process. Book Recommendations
Posted (Marc) in SEO on January-30-2006

I ordered a few copywriting books from Amazon. The $45 shipping fee is pretty steep considering I’m bound to get the books after at least 3 weeks. Ahhh, such is life for SEOs living on the other side of the world.

Did I miss anything?

Don’t Sell, Rent it Out
Posted (Marc) in SEO on January-28-2006

For a friend who’s looking to sell the website, here’s the alternative.

…if your website is more than three years old, is listed in DMOZ, has lots of green pixel fairy dust, a low alexa rank, is an authority site or has any other redeeming qualities you might be able to sell some text links. Depending on the topic of your website you may be able to earn up to a few hundred a month. If you don’t have the time, resources, or inclination to do it yourself try contacting a text link broker. Another idea is instead of selling standard links is selling presell pages.

Posted (Marc) in PPC, AdSense, SEO on January-28-2006

I’ve seen 336×280 ad units carrying 3 or 4 ads again. Others are seeing it too. I reported earlier that eCPM got a boost by showing less ads so on whether this development is good or bad for publishers, a big fat “I don’t know yet”.

Link Baiting Origins
Posted (Marc) in Keyword Research, Link Building, SEO on January-26-2006

The earliest references I could find about link bait / link baiting are Aaron’s Link Bait (08/20/2005) and Nick’s The Art of Link Baiting classic (11/09/2005).

How then did the Linkbait.com domain get registered so early (created on 04/24/2005)? Who really coined the term? Who popularized it? Who’s the grand daddy of link baiting?
