There’s an ongoing Filairsoft.com thread (yet again) about the upgrade vs skills debate in airsoft. Much has been said about this issue. I’m sure all our airsoft forefathers had their own harrowing experience with opponents packing M150 setups and absolutely no fire discipline. It has become the latest rage these days: get a gun, get a stronger spring, get a heavier BB. The airsoft FPS upgrade mania is so bad these days one would be a fool to think he could do with just goggles and neoprene balaclavas during open FPS games.
It’s not a disease limited to newbies. I myself carry a M150 gun, which suits me just fine since I like to play the sniper role. What separates me from airsoft thugs is that I know when not to shoot. It doesn’t matter if I have a clean shot. If the person is too close for comfort I’d rather walk away than inflict a whole lot of BB pain. I take no pride in having caused unnecessary hurt, in fact it shames me. Losing a duel or losing the game is not the end all and be all of airsoft. It’s not your kill count at the end of the day or the successful assault you did on the bunker. I’m beginning to realize that it’s the bonds and the friendships formed that matter. It’s the knowledge that you played your best and that you had fun doing it.
The gaganti ako cycle stops with me.
