Crye Precision’s Multicam

I guess the US Army’s loss is every armchair general’s gain. Crye Associates’ Scorpion Pattern (MultiCam™) lost to another company for the new Army Combat Uniform (ACU) contract. So what do you do? Sell it to the civilian market of course! It’ll just be a matter of time before we see these MultiCam™ goodies at eBay…in fact I see a few already. When can we expect to see this pattern in the Philippines?

Multicam™ information from MilitaryMorons:

The small, New York-based design firm of Crye Associates was formed in 2000 and in 2001 won a contract to participate in the U.S. Army’s project ‘Scorpion’, which was the first phase of FCS (Future Combat Systems) program. Crye’s involvement in the project included a complete redesign/overhaul of the uniform and equipment worn by the combat soldier. One of the many innovative ideas/items that stemmed from that project is a new camouflage pattern. Unofficially referred to as the ‘Scorpion pattern’ until now (as it was born out of the Scorpion project), Crye is now producing it as ‘MultiCam’. Newly established Crye Precision is the manufacturing/production side of design-oriented Crye Associates, and has introduced the pattern, as well as apparel and equipment made in MultiCam.

The stuff on ebay right now is very cheap, and just using the fabric. The actual crye stuff is very high quality and should be out anytime now.

  2. Marc Says:

Sir, if you have actual pictures of the Multicam items in “action”, please consider sharing it with the militaria/airsoft community here in the Philippines :)

  3. MM Says:

The statement above “Crye Associates’ Scorpion Pattern (MultiCam™) lost to another company for the new Army Combat Uniform (ACU) contract.” is inaccurate. Multicam was developed under a completely separate program not connected with the choice of the new ACU pattern. The ACU pattern was developed and chosen by the U.S. Army, not another company, and was NOT field tested. The choices were based more on whim than solid test results.

  4. Marc Says:

Thanks for the clarification MM. Any chance we can see operators using the multicam pattern in the future? BTW, great site, from a big fan :)

  5. Chris Says:

MM, where did you get your information that the ACU was not field tested? I highly doubt that.

  6. MM Says:

one year later replying to the above question. chris, have you any evidence to the contrary? i’d love to see pre-adoption field test data on the ACU if you have any.

  7. ALLAN Says:

The ACU is junk, I’m in the first unit to field it as our only uniform. It’s poorly made and doesn’t really camouflage in any environment. It’s screams ‘whim’ a-la Shinseky’s (sp?) beret change. I like the Multicam pattern and uniform. If you want quality, and performance, then multicam is the way to go. If you want trendy junk, then go with the ACU. I’ve heard all the excuses, I’m wearing ACUs right now, I would never actually buy a pair. I call them “Atari-flage” because of their cheesy pattern… Militarymorons.com has good information on the ACU development.

  8. Steve Says:

Just got a crye precision multicam full combat uniform and the words impressive don`t even come close. If you can get hold of any whatever the cost, trust me you won`t be disappointed.I waited 6 months for mine and they were worth every second of it.You`ve gotta try the waste managment system out just to say you have.lol.

  9. Todd Says:

I’ve been watching Crye for a year and looks like I’ve missed every opportunity; the windo was fairly small.
Is Crye still manufacturing their combat uniform for contracts, or private industry or are they completely out of the business?
I don’t mind paying $400 for a new set in my size but I won’t pay it for a watered down variation.
Anyone know of a source for the uniforms?

  10. Tim Says:

If you’re looking for Crye Multicam clothes, their website is a good start:

    http://www.cryeprecision.com/

It may take some time to get your order though (I waited 4 months for combat pants). Enjoy.

    Like the site Marc. :)

  11. Jason Says:

http://www.dropzonetactical.com/home.html is an excellent place to find MULTICAM combat gear…they are quality built in Edmonton and available online

  12. rwbazillion Says:

I got mine last month from Crye Precision. It does take a while to get a pair. Don’t go through anybody else except Crye. Other companies are selling te multicam with cheap fabric so don’t be fooled. It is definitely worth the wait. I did do some small tests putting myself in the woodland environment; checking to see if it camoflagues and it does extremely well.

I will be testing the uniform against the Nato, Desert and Woodland Green, and also against the Marine MARPAT and ACU. I will take pictures of the uniforms in woodland, arid and desert environments. I will post them in my website. Hopefully these pictures will get passed around the net and maybe the Army will get a clue, that multicam does what they the ACU attempts to do.

I have talked with crye precision and they have told me that private companies and some infantry and special forces units have bought them and are using them. I have even heard that you can get reimbursed for them by your unit. The multicam works extremely well. Much better than the ACU, and Nato desert and woodland greens.

I heard the cry lost the contract due to money issues. a field Multicam uniform costs $190; while an ACU costs $ 81.90. That is why they lost the contract.

  13. dodgy_spike Says:

had a set of drop zone multicam, smock and pants, both are of 100% cry cloth and are of a very high standard. being used by special forces world wide.
cry are now doing multicam in ripstop…

  14. Raj Says:

Hi All, I’m in the UK and trying to get set of combat shirt & pants and also the armour carrier. Does anyone have a price for the armour carrier since on the Crye website it say ask, and they haven’t returned my email in 2 weeks. On an aside, how can you order from Crye if it just says out of stock, I don’t eventhe get opportunity to place and a backorder ? anyway keep up the good work, Raj

  15. Raj Says:

oops sorry for the typos, i can’t seem to edit them :(

  16. Steve Says:

Be persistant with the people from crye and also be patient they have on average 200 emails a day asking questions on gear,so sit tight. The last time I spoke to crye was about a month ago and they said they were completing their back orders soon.Honestly be patient with them they are doing their best, as regards to the armour carrier i heard somewhere that it costs around 2000 dollars depending on any attatchments, hope this helps.
    Steve.

  17. Tails5389 Says:

Multicam looks great, I’ve seen the picture comparisons on MM’s page and others and it has totally sold me on the idea. We used to fade/overwash/buy old combat uniforms to get a similar effect that the multicam has on the eye but it never worked as well as the new cam does. I’d like to get a set of Crye combats myself but the British Army has a pretty rigid dress code as far as cam patterns. Which is too bad ’cause the desert DPM is completely rubbish.

  18. Zimster Says:

I got put on the list for my Multi cam backorder thru Crye Precision over a year ago and totaly forgot about my order when all of the sudden almost 8 monthes later I got an e-mail confirming my order. I new that the oportunity might not come again so I shelled out the cash for the Combat and field gear. Ive been hunting with the Stuff and I love it. So far I am very impresed. I almost wished I had order a few more as Im sure I could have made a nice little profit on ebay.

  19. Ickatarzo Says:

Yeah, I’m supposed to be getting a pair of field pants and field shirt as a birthday present, but I, unfortunately, have to wait until those items are in stock again. I was starting to get impatient, but now that I read that it is taking 6-months for some of you guys to get what you want, I’m calming down and getting ready to have to wait a while. I just hope their worth it.
But it’s not all bad, I made a shirt and pair of pants out of the fabric and they work just fine. Not the greatest of quality mind you (they don’t have any pockets), but they work fine for paintballing in the woods. My only complaint is that Crye doesn’t sell a boonie cap or a balaclava in multicam, because I’d really like to know that I’m decked out in full multicam.

  20. Anon Says:

Crye Multi-camo = Awesome… However it works it disrupts the way your eye sees somebody very very well… Look up Future Force Warrior - being considered for standard army issue for that program - 2014. The vest they make for it even has pocket in the back for when you’re at ease and its balls cold. Worth every penny. Too bad I can’t wear em now

  21. Anon Says:

Oh yah… Boonie is either being developed now or considered for devolment too :)

  22. odhie Says:

i have just buy 2 pairs of combat pants
a month ago and it is very nice
    i like multicammmmmmmmmm

  23. blackops Says:

I have trained considerably with the Crye kit. Specifically in precision rifle courses (sniper courses) and specialist operators courses for both military and private military, without exception in each of the training courses/evolutions I had a clear advantage in almost any environment . In most cases all I needed to augment my kit with was the appropriate veil and some local foliage or garbage. I used to swear by ghillie suits-until I went out in Crye Multicam. It is just a superior design/pattern. Not a do all concealment/camo but a great tool for the box. The Crye products construction is far superior to any manufacturer or design to this day.I know this sounds like an infomercial but if you can use it or get your unit to use it , it might just save your ass, but you will definitely at the very least be more comfortable and confident with your kit. Somebody must have really kissed some washington ass to get that acu crap issued-(it was the worst camo in every exercise).

  24. Yam Says:

find a web site with REPRO multicam from Hong Kong.
    http://www.geocities.com/bomber_b17/main.html
Ordered one before. Nice. good for wild environment…

  25. paulo Says:

I’ll mirror the positive comments on all of the above. I’m UK forces and finally managed to get hold of a pair of combat pants(R6 surprisingly) after about 8 months, well worth the wait. It’s a sad state of affairs that some armchair penny watching halfwit will always go for the cheaper option. Shame that HM forces wouldn’t pick up the crye contract. Laugh as you may(i did when i found out), theres a chance our DPM will be getting the digi overhaul after i sampled a DigiDPM smock. quality material. Crap pattern.

  26. aaron Says:

I just order some crye multicam combat pants, shirt, and a boonie hat. Sounds like its gonna be a while until they get here though…Anyways, my buddy has some crye field pants and shirt, and they are SUPERB. I have the MARPAT and the army ACU. I compared them to my friends crye camo, and there really was no comparison. THE ACU IS COMPLETE GARBAGE. It sticks out like a sore thumb in all enviroments. In the forest area it appears to be mostly white and gray. In desert it is practically the same. It woud make a decent urban camo though. The marpat was pretty good, however, in my opinion, like all other previous US camos, it too dark for my taste. The crye camo worked extremely well in all envirments. All in all crye is near perfect, and I cant wait for mine.

  27. Fred Says:

I am looking desesperatly a Crye Combat Pant. All shop are out of stock.
Aaron, where do you have bought it?

  28. D Says:

Does anyone know where I can get a Multicam TRU jacket that has the chest and rank velcro on the jacket? I was very disappointed that unlike the ACU’s, the TRU’s come with them seperately for you to put on yourself… whats with that?

  29. KLP Says:

Hi! Everyone, where can I purchase the CP multicam Jacket and pants ?

  30. odhie Says:
