Airsoft Items For Sale
Posted (Marc) in Airsoft Sniper on October-31-2004

I’m selling a bunch of airsoft gears to finance my first digital camera project. Most of the items are posted in the FS: Gears & Accessories and FS: Uniforms/Clothing forums at Filairsoft.com. Items are at my house in Mandaluyong, but I’m willing to meet in Ortigas after office hours.

I haven’t used any of the items. They still have that PX/balikbayan box smell. I can ship the items to any province through Aboitiz. Also open to trades for a good digital cam (I’m willing to add cash). Hala bili na! Read the rest of this entry »

The Resurrection Project
Posted (Marc) in Corporate Shit on October-30-2004

This wasn’t exactly what we had in mind. We have, in a very mediocre way, completed the Tugtog sa Likod (Background Music) mission. Kudos to my fellow guerillas who volunteered to bring their own speaker systems to help spread the gospel. I’ll be bringing mine next week, hope nobody plays around with it too much. The price of revolution!

Armchair rebels turned armchair DJs. Can you hear the house/hiphop-laced screams for revolution? Power to the people! Read the rest of this entry »

SEO Philippines
Posted (Marc) in SEO on October-29-2004

While the rest of the world has heralded SEO as one of the cornerstones for any Internet marketing initiative, the Philippine Internet scene has been slow to catch up. SEO services here in the Philippines have not really taken off yet because business owners simply don’t see the benefits of spending the extra dollar for this type of service.

It’s not that Filipinos do not use search engines to find information. Most companies assume the “market’s-not-yet-ready” position: 1) very weak local market for online shopping and 2) Internet usage has yet to penetrate the masses. A pity considering that a small number of “enlightened” companies who operate online pasalubong shopping shops are actually doing good business with the OFW and Fil-Am market. I Resign
Posted (Marc) in Corporate Shit on October-28-2004

Was sifting through old documents and I found the first resignation letter I ever wrote.

Dear Sir:

I’m tendering my resignation effective _____. I have benefited immensely from my 6-month experience with _____ and I only have you guys to thank for.

I have reassessed my current career goals and it includes more hands-on experience of producing B2B sites, something I feel I won’t be exposed to in my present capacity as information architect. My role as information architect for our B2C sites has been a frustrating one, since the consultancy role I have learned to accept is hardly recognized by _____. The projects I have come to handle allow me little room to practice the knowledge I’ve gained through reading IA resources since majority of these are plain “corporate web presence” types. With the types of clients we have, I haven’t been given the chance to produce a successful B2C e-commerce site from the ground up.

Thank you for sharing the _____ experience with me.

Sincerely yours,

Marc Hil J. Macalua

In hindsight, I think the letter should have been a little more positive. Guess I burned a few bridges there :)

MMTC
Posted (Marc) in Airsoft Sniper on October-26-2004

MMTC’s back? Rechristened Mogadishu Playfield by Andre (Kasmot), the site has undergone a few structural improvements to simulate the Somalian urban battleground theme. I have fond memories of MMTC. A lot of airsoft firsts for me there.

Here are a few retro MMTC pictures for you. More MMTC pics here.

Word of advice: listen to what Neil (wotmeworry) said. And watch out for skinnies!

Traffic Builder
Posted (Marc) in SEO, Corporate Shit on October-21-2004

What if I told you website traffic building’s found its nirvana? We may have stumbled upon a true website traffic builder product. Checking AWStats for one of the websites the group maintains has become an almost hourly ritual. With nine days to go before November, the race is on to double last month’s unique visitor traffic. If achieved, it would be one of the few bright spots in this otherwise stumm month. The increase in website traffic is truly remarkable.

I’m guessing Stumm’s a little concerned about the continued success of the SEO initiative. Rightfully so. It’s called paranoia and two reasons come to mind: 1) diminishing propaganda opportunities and 2) the “inadequacy” of Stumm and his cohorts is further highlighted. It was actually glaring before, but now it’s got led blinking lights around it. In the past, this wouldn’t have posed as a problem. The obvious cracks in Stumm’s corporate existence were largely ignored and generally accepted as a legit form of occupational handicap. It’s a little unsettling.

Time to take Stumm to the cleaners.

Intellectual Acuity
Posted (Marc) in Corporate Shit on October-20-2004

What is the greatest threat to corporate success? The Stumm Effect. Morale is shot, standards are compromised, mediocrity becomes the truth. If there’s a single culprit for the malaise that perils this world, it would have to be homo stummis. Read the rest of this entry »

Retro Transformer Dreams
Posted (Marc) in Personal on October-17-2004

I’m seriously thinking about getting Seasons 1 to 4 of the now classic Transformers Generation 1 series. Back in the 80’s, this was THE show to watch. If you’re an 80’s kid you know what I mean. There were a lot of other shows to watch, but nothing compared to the “robots in disguise”. And you thought people would outgrow energon cube-based subplots. I went over to Bidshot.com to check out if any of the local pirates had some Transformers DVD loot. Read the rest of this entry »

SEO Philippines Tagalog Profanity Cuss Word
Posted (Marc) in SEO on October-17-2004

Sorry for the SEO-heavy title. On to the post!

Funny how a keyword-rich filename, text with the right keyword density and prominence, and backlinks can go a long way. Out of nowhere, I’m now number three for the premiere Tagalog cuss word in Google. Obviously, the goal is to reach the top. That shouldn’t be too hard to do. The race to profanity infamy is on.
